ORBL 2018/2019 Annual General Meeting (AGM)

The league AGM is coming up and as a committee we have come up with a few new rules/rule amendments we are going to propose to the league.

The committee’s proposals are as follows:

1) That a maximum of 2 players only can be registered on the night of a match.

2) To bring forward the last date for player registrations to the end of January(unless brought to the attention of the committee due to extenuating circumstances).

3) Any clubs that have more than one team will have to play all of their inter club matches before the end of December. If this is not adhered to the outstanding fixture/s will be null and void.

The league AGM will take place at the Fairview inn, Broad lane, Rochdale, OL16 4QQ on Thursday 2nd May 2019 at 7:30pm.

Annual Presentation

Please could you inform all of your club members that the presentation evening is on Friday 26th April at Middleton cricket club, 7:45pm start. This is £6 per head with a pie super included. Please can you let Janet Beardmore know of your attendance ASAP. Also if anyone has any trophies can you get these back to Janet Beardmore within the next few days so we have time to get them engraved for the next winners.

Many thanks Shelley

ORBL Presentation Night 26th April

Just a gentle reminder to everyone that the presentation night is on the 26th April at 7:45 pm this year and we need to know how many people are coming. Please don’t wait until you know if you have won something or not as we need the support of all the league and its members and friends to ensure that we get a good atmosphere on the night. Please book places and pay the £6 entry fee to Janet Beardmore as soon as you can and let her know if you want the Meat and Potato pie or Cheese and Onion pie. her e-mail is beardmorejanet@gmail.com or phone on 0170637177.

I would encourage as many people to come as possible and show your support for the league and its committee members and to celebrate the talent displayed by our winners.

Paul Beardmore (Chair ORBL)

Handicap Final

In a final postponed from November due to injury, Ali Asghar and Sameer Qadri faced Haider Ali and Abdul Raheem. This was the ORBL Handicap final and Ali and Sameer played excellent badminton on the night to win 21 – 16 and 21 – 7.

Open tournaments 2019

Sadly we only had a limited number of entries for this years open tournament and consequently only the mens competition was able to be played last night. Even this was depleted after a couple of last minute pull outs due to injury. However the remaining seven pairings enjoyed a good level of competitive but friendly badminton in two round robins. The winners of the two pools were Ali Asghar and Sameer Qadri (pool 1) and Paul Beardmore and Anthony Clarkson (pool 2). In the final Ali and Sameer controlled the game to win 21 – 8 and 21 – 15 and emerged as worthy winners to add to their crown of Handicap mens winners.

Rules and Regulations-“The Serve”

Following on from Gary’s e-mail, the Committee discussed this issue once again last night.  In relation the illegal serving, I have been personally witness to this in recent matches and without exception they are back handed serves. 1Z0-061 dumps I am sure everyone knows the rules but I have looked up a link to a useful You Tube video which very clearly demonstrates what a legal and illegal back hand serve looks like.   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=szrBCAFkd0w
Could all club secretaries please bring this to the attention of their players that serve back hand in particular as it appears to be a growing number of people who serve this way and consistently do not adhere to the rules.
At club level we do not have umpires watching the game so it is important that team members understand the rules and help to ensure that we all play fairly. 70-779 dumps This may from time to time lead to challenges between players who are on court and in the heat of a game, but I would expect the watching players to take a reasonable position on advising their team mates as to whether or not they are serving illegally.
